WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that enables you to create a website or blog from scratch, or to improve an existing website. WordPress is free and open source software released under the GPL.
There are two ways to install WordPress:
1. Install WordPress on your own web server.
2. Use a web hosting service that offers WordPress hosting.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to install WordPress on your own web server.
Requirements
To install WordPress, you will need:
A web server running PHP and MySQL.
A domain name.
WordPress software.
We recommend using the Apache web server, PHP, and MySQL. If you are not familiar with these applications, please consult the documentation for your web server and database.
Installation
1. Download the latest version of WordPress from wordpress.org.
2. Extract the files from the WordPress zip file.
3. Create a new MySQL database for WordPress.
4. Create a new user account with permissions to access the WordPress database.
5. In the WordPress directory, open the wp-config-sample.php file in a text editor.
6. Enter the information for the MySQL database, user account, and password.
7. Save the file as wp-config.php.
8. In a web browser, navigate to the WordPress directory.
9. Click the Install WordPress button.
10. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Once WordPress is installed, you can log in to the administration area and start creating content.
The WordPress administration area is located at:
where www.example.com is your domain name.
You will need to enter your username and password to log in.
The WordPress administration area consists of the following sections:
Dashboard – The Dashboard provides an overview of the most recent activity on your website.
Posts – The Posts section is used to create and manage posts and pages.
Pages – The Pages section is used to create and manage pages.
Appearance – The Appearance section is used to customize the appearance of your website.
Plugins – The Plugins section is used to install and manage
