What is Content Marketing?
In its simplest form, content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.
At its core, content marketing is the art of communicating with your customers and prospects without selling. It is non-interruption marketing. Instead of pitching your products or services, you are delivering information that makes your buyer more intelligent. The essence of this strategy is the belief that if we, as businesses, deliver consistent, ongoing valuable information to buyers, they ultimately reward us with their business and loyalty.
Content marketing has been around for a long time. In fact, Jon Morrow points out that content marketing as we know it today originated way back in 1895 with John Deere’s The Furrow magazine. This was a publication created for farmers with the intent of providing useful information that would help them be more successful with their farming. In other words, it was created to serve the audience first without any ulterior motives of selling a product. Since then, many other companies have followed suit and used content marketing as a means to reach their audiences.
