When advertising, there are some conventions of advertising that I think you should keep in mind. The first thing NOT to do is to run an ad without any idea of what it is that you’re trying to sell. People do this all the time, but it’s in your best interest to keep your eye on the marketplace if you want to stay ahead of the curve.
All successful advertising have an element of them that makes them successful. And my guess is that the element that makes them successful is the headline. The headline makes up about 80% of the success of your ad, so if you don’t have a great headline, you won’t stand the chance of earning more money in your business.
To write a good headline, you will want to learn from the pros. I mean learning from people like John Carlton, Gary Halbert, Ken McCarthy, Michael Fortin, and others. All of these entrepreneurs are smart and get sales because of their copywriting and advertising techniques alone.
If you want to be like any one of these people, you will have to start getting to work to learn how write an ad that works. In fact, let’s take a look at how to write a headline that works:
1) The headline
As I mentioned before, this is 80% of the success of your ad. Without a good headline, you will find yourself stuck and at a lost for words. This is why I think that you should have a good headline to emulate. And the best way to do that is with something called a “swipe file”.
A swipe file is simply a collection of winning ads and sales letters. The headlines in these swipe files are legendary, and I think you can make a nice earning with these techniques if you put them into use. Simply go online to Google, and search for “swipe file”. Some will come up for free but most you have to pay around $5 for it. This is a small price to pay for such an incredible source of copywriting. Let’s take a look at another piece of advertising that you should consider.
2) Your body copy
This is where you will want expand on your headline of your ad, or in the body of your sales letter. Your body copy should reinforce everything that your headline is all about. If you’re running a display ad in a magazine or newsletter, it’s best to get straight to the point.
Tell them about your free offer and how it can help to improve their lives. Then at the bottom, mention your 24-hour 1-800 message line, or a website where they can leave their information at also. This is a great way to start earning more money in your business than you can possibly handle.
Your headline and your body copy play a crucial role in getting people to respond to your ad. If they both are in-sync with each other, more than likely you will win. If they aren’t in-sync with each other, more than likely you will have a failure on your hands, so keep these 2 things in mind.
