ABSTRACT – This webinar will cover web automation within the context of natural hazards engineering. The webinar will include an introduction to web technologies, and will cover existing tools (e.g. python libraries and web automation frameworks) to gather data from publicly available online resources. We will demonstrate how to use these tools in research applications such as gathering buildings information, hazard data, exposure data or geospatial data, with emphasis on applications to regional analysis. An application of this that will be demonstrated is how to obtain data for tall buildings in San Francisco, and gather seismic hazard analysis data for this set of buildings using USGS hazard web services. Another example will be how to populate a regional buildings inventory for Anchorage, Alaska using publicly available tax assessor’s data.

PRESENTER – Wael Elhaddad is a Post-doctoral researcher at UC Berkeley where he develops software for the NHERI SimCenter. He obtained his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Southern California and has industry experience working as a Software Engineer at the Analytical Modeling Group in Bentley Systems.
