Trying to build a copywriting portfolio to get clients? It can be really difficult especially when you’re a beginner. Prospects want to see examples of your work but you might not have any! This makes them choose other writers over you and creates lots of missed income opportunities.
Luckily, all hope is not lost. I recommend beginning by creating a free account on Medium and blogging. Choose topics that your ideal client would be searching for. Think about their questions, pain points, and interests.
Secondly, write mock copy! Choose a topic, industry, brand, or make up a product for fun. Put as much energy and time into writing the copy as you would a real project.
Thirdly, don’t be afraid to do some work for free. Tap your network and let them know you’re offering writing services for the first few people to contact you. This builds relationships and gets you valuable portfolio pieces.
