I’m not your typical copywriter.
I didn’t go to school for advertising or marketing. I have a degree in English Literature from a small liberal arts school. I started my career as a journalist, writing for local newspapers and magazines. It wasn’t until I was laid off from my job as a staff writer at a regional magazine that I realized I could make a living as a freelance copywriter.
I took some online courses, read a few books on the subject, and then started cold-calling businesses in my area, offering my services. To my surprise, people were actually interested in what I had to say! And so began my journey as a professional copywriter.
Now, just a few years later, I’ve built up a successful freelance business and have clients all over the world. In 2020, I made over $200,000 from copywriting work—and I’m on track to double that in 2021. But the real story here isn’t the money. It’s how copywriting has changed my life for the better in so many ways…
First of all, it’s given me the freedom to work from anywhere. As long as I have an internet connection, I can do my work from anywhere in the world—which is perfect for me since I love to travel. In the past year alone, I’ve been to Spain, Argentina, Mexico, and Costa Rica (among other places), and all while working on projects for clients back home.
But more importantly, copywriting has allowed me to connect with people from all walks of life and help them achieve their goals. Whether it’s helping a small business owner write better website copy or working on a major ad campaign for a global company, it feels good to know that my work is making a difference in the world.
And that’s really what it’s all about for me: making a difference. Sure, the money is great—but at the end of the day, what matters most to me is knowing that my work is helping people achieve their dreams.
