Clive Palmer’s rebranded political party is emerging as a significant player in the federal election – helped along by the announcement of a preference deal with the Liberal-National Party.
It’s an extraordinary comeback for a political movement that had been largely written off after years of infighting, defections and poor election results.
Clive Palmer himself took a massive reputational hit after workers in his North Queensland nickel refinery were left chasing entitlements.
While the Government had to bail out those workers, Clive Palmer has found plenty of money to spend on a massive advertising campaign to get himself back into political power – estimated at more than the cost being spent by the major political parties combined.
