Andrew Tate, a British internet personality and self-proclaimed “pickup artist”, has been arrested in Romania on suspicion of trafficking women.
Tate, who is also known by his YouTube moniker “Tate the Great”, was arrested alongside two other men after authorities were tipped off by a woman who claimed she had been held against her will and forced to have sex with Tate.
The woman, who has not been named, told police that she met Tate online and had agreed to meet him in person. However, when she arrived at his apartment in Bucharest, she claims she was drugged and taken captive.
She alleges that Tate then sold her to another man, who took her to Turkey and kept her in a hotel room where he raped and beat her. She eventually managed to escape and contact the authorities.
Tate has been charged with human trafficking and could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty. He is currently being held in police custody pending trial.
This is not the first time that Tate has been accused of criminal activity. In 2016, he was arrested in the UK on suspicion of assault after allegedly attacking a man who he claimed had groped one of his female friends.
However, he was later released without charge.
