When most people think of affiliate marketing they think of it as promoting a product and earning a commission on sales. But AdSense is Pay-Per-Click advertising, another type of affiliate marketing, and every time a visitor to your site clicks on an AdSense ad you make a commission. So you’re not really building a site to promote a specific product, you’re basically selling advertising space.
You might think that it sounds pretty silly to promote advertising when you’re only going to earn a few cents a click. You could be selling a full-fledged product and earning 75% commissions on products ranging from $7 to $700 – or even more. Why would you want to go for those pennies when you could be making the big bucks with your site?
Not all AdSense clicks pay off in pennies. In fact, there are some that pay $20, $30 or $50 per click – or maybe even more. The amount you earn every time someone clicks that AdSense ad to a certain extent by how much the advertiser pays for that keyword. And some of those keywords can be pretty expensive.
How do you know which ads pay more and how do you get those ads on your website? Simple. You go to the Google Keyword Tool and do your research. Type in one of your keywords and get your search results. And then sort by Estimated Avg. CPC. This will give you the estimated cost that the advertiser is paying each time someone clicks his ad. It’s not the amount you will earn, but it will give you a better idea of which keywords are paying more. And a lot of marketers make very good money with AdSense sites.
For example, if you type in ‘Lawyer’, you’ll see that the advertiser is paying $51.02 for the keyword ‘Injury Lawyers’. And if you do a search on the keyword ‘Dog’ you’ll see he’s paying $0.05 for the keyword ‘dog older’. Quite a difference!
When you find these high paying keywords you’ll want to include them in your content so your site will attract not only those ads, but also the searchers who are most likely to click on those ads.
Before you set up an AdSense site you’ll also want to take into consideration the same things you would if you were setting up a site to promote a product. How many people are searching with that keyword? How many other competing sites are there? And how difficult is it going to be to get your visitors to click on that AdSense ad?
