Internet marketing is the process of making money online. While there could be several ways for successfully making money over the internet, there are certain things that one should know ahead of attempting be an internet marketer.

Choose a niche
Select a niche that you enjoy working. Most internet marketers waste time selecting popular niches, finally selecting niches they love because it’s easier. For instance, if you have a passion for golf, regardless whether you have professional experience, try working on a golf niche.
Have at least two emails
Get two email addresses. One for communicating and the other for signing up to reports, newsletters and similar things while checking the competition. Using the name in the address isn’t recommended because you may later specialize in another niche. When people associate your real name to golf, it’ll be difficult for you to associate yourself with a different niche.
Choose an area of marketing
Choose the area of marketing you intend to pursue. Create a product for information or become an affiliate for others’ products. There’s unlimited potential in both the areas. If one fails, try the other.
Build a website
Create a website either for selling your product or to affiliate others’ products. There are several companies from where you can get a domain name. You can have multiple sites as well. Most internet marketers have multiple sites.
Generate traffic to your site
Sell your product or the product of your affiliate by generating traffic to your website. For this purpose, you can write keyword-rich articles having links to your website and submitting them to various article directories. You can also submit press releases to appropriate sources, create content on your website using search engine optimization techniques, participate in forum discussions on your niche with a link to your website in the signature line, purchase advertisements using trading links and pay-per-click to other sites etc. If used properly, such methods can generate a huge volume of traffic.
Repeat the process
Whenever you taste success, repeat the process. While a single website can make a small amount of money each month, multiple websites can add up to generate a good monthly income. Internet marketers often make websites and leave them alone whenever they see good traffic being generated. This creates a steady flow of income, albeit passively.
