This took more setup than I feel it needed to, but once everthing was set up correctly this unit makes transferring analog video pretty easy.
I tried using a program other than OBS to start with, but save yourself some trouble and get OBS if you don’t have it and go by the instructions that come with the converter. it’s easier all around and will save you some frustration.
I initally tried to use VMIX to input the video from the converter, but could never get it to work. VMIX could see the converter as a source, but I could never get a signal from it.
Once I set up OBS and followed their instructions to the letter, I got a signal and was good to go. Once set up it’s a breeze to use….save the scene in OBS and it’s ready for you next time around.
I can’t comment much on the quality of the resulting video file as I my first test was trasnferring a 30+ year old VHS camcorder tape – recorded in EP to boot. The quality sucked, but I don’t blame this unit for that. All the issue I’m seeing are due to the source and the age of the tape.
The only real gripe I’ve got so far is that I feel that the unit is sending a base audio buzz that is detectable under the recorded audio. I’m seeing an audio signal in OBS even before playing source material and there’s a buzz underneath the resulting audio. It’s not bad, but I’d prefer it not be there. It’s possible I can find a fix, but in the limited use I’ve had, that’s my only annoyance.
