Review of VILTROX DC-550 Pro Touchscreen Camera Field Monitor
Description
Arrives in a nicely presented packaging. The inner box is sealed, I like to see sealed packaging as you can be sure it is not a return. Inside the box are:
1 x Plastic carry case
1 x Monitor
1 x Sunshade hood
1 x Cold shoe adapter
1 x Battery NP-F550 compatible
1 x Micro HDMI to HDMI cable
1 x Mini HDMI to HDMI cable
1 x USB A to USB C charging cable
1 x Product features card
In use
For power the monitor can use Sony NP-F series battery, 12-18V DC or USB C power in. The battery provided has an inbuilt battery charger that you plug a USB C cable into. This is a handy way to charge a battery as a separate charger is not required. An optional sunshade hood is included that flips up. An adjustable adapter is included that can be mounted landscape or vertically that attaches to a cold shoe mount on a cage or camera hot shoe. Finally attach a HDMI cable from the monitor to your camera and you are good to go.
There are three customisable function buttons on the top to call up your favourite functions or you can use the control knob on the left to scroll though the menus. Monitoring tools include focus peaking, zebras, and false colour for an alternative view of exposure. A range of waveforms can be superimposed on the image including: audio peak meters, histogram, vector and parade.
What I liked
1) Carry case has space to hold all accessories
2) Almost full set of accessories and cables included
3) Can load your own LUTs so you can shoot in raw video and view with LUT applied on the monitor
4) Touch screen operation
5) Wide range of monitoring tools
What I disliked
1) No standard HDMI to HDMI cable included. My camera uses full size HDMI out.
2) Build quality not to the highest standards e.g., the sunshade hood could easily be damaged if not handled carefully.
In summary this is a great external monitor with a wide range of monitoring tools that will help your videography.
In terms of openness, I was sent this external monitor under the Amazon Vine programme for an impartial review.
