This is an initial review. Have had this for one day. So this isn’t about durability over time. I generally update my reviews at about 6 months.
I chose this camera because of the module that is in it. Aptina m15100. I have owned this aptina module, with out a camera body for about 2 years, and have used it plenty. However, I wanted to have a c mount lense as opposed to M12. This module has worked for me on various AI projects. Namely I have used it with Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04 with open cv. Which is why this camera was chosen over other newer models.
My initial impression is that this camera is well built. I am hard on equipment, and this will be be battle tested. I can’t speak to durability yet. But it does feel sturdy.
The box that it came in is not very sturdy, so I was worried that it would be doa. But it was fine. An oddity of this package is that it comes with a baggy of wallmount screws, but they have no purpose as far as I can tell. Maybe they are just there for the Alan wrench, but also not sure.
One of my projects involves face detection. But I needed face defection at variable distance. This is getting me clear and accurate detections from 5 to about 35 feet. I suspect it could get out to about 50. It almost certainly could do closer, but that’s not what I am looking at.
Value so far. The aptina module is an older module and there are better ones out there like imx. So at the 70 dollar range it is getting pricey, but it is stable and predictable for me.

I use this for a scoreboard camera when livestreaming hockey games. I mount it to a solid rail or conduit using a SmallRig clamp, and then connect it to a PC running an app that performs OCR on the scoreboard.
This camera works great for this purpose.. low latency, easily adjustable iris, and wide zoom range. It makes it easy to get the part of the scoreboard I need in frame with the right amount of contrast.
Only thing I don’t like is that the adjustment screws fall out pretty easily.. need to be careful with them! But that’s not really a big deal; don’t even actually need them, as you can still adjust things without them, just can’t lock the settings in.

I like the camera, much better than my previous 720p camera, and for a very nice price. However, I do feel sorta scammed, the software the camera comes with is stored in a Google Drive instead of shipped through drivers, to make things sketchier google automatically assumes that the software is a bunch of viruses. I have no reason not to trust them since the software included has nothing to do with the specific webcam, it’s some sort of trial to a screen recorder. The focus and zoom controls are fake, they don’t move. I thought I was just being too gentle with it, but I ended up just unscrewing the lens. So those screws are just for looks, they do nothing. You can open and close the aperture, which is a really nice feature for any webcam.
