CAVEAT Ahead: Reflective Does NOT mean Glows in the Dark & Silver isn’t Silver – it’s Grey

I’ve updated this review to four stars. The reason: excellent customer service. Everything else I’ve said still stands, but I go weak in the knees for supremely solid customer service, and that happened here.

First, the good news. The bag has a lot of storage, and hopefully, it does what the company claims it does. I love the zippers, it holds a lot, and I’m going to buy the envelope to put in the bag, and like I said, I hope if there is an emergency, this baby is good to go and as fire-resistant as it’s claimed.

For those who’ve not had the experience: I’ve been in a house fire, and trust me, you need to have a plan, you need to remain calm, and you need to grab only what matters, and get the heck out. IF there is time, and if you remain clear-headed and calm, then you might be able to find/grab this bag. As for earthquakes – the ones I’ve been in, none of us were grabbing anything, we just went to the safest place and hoped for the best. (Ever try to keep two big dogs calm during an earthquake? Not so easy – so my advice is practice with the best treats you can find – worked for me, but I digress.)

Now for the bad news: IMO the photos/description for this product are MISLEADING. I got the reflective strips because it looks like they glow in the dark. They don’t. I reflect more light than they do naturally. I guess if you have a flashlight during your emergency, and you’re scanning the room for your bag, you’ll be able to see it because the strips kinda sorta reflect light. This might be really helpful with the black bags, but not so much with what I got. I got what is *called* silver.

And that’s the other thing. The photos show a nice light silver bag. I thought it would be shiny silver. Nope. It’s like a grey putty color, and IMO ugly as homemade sin. I’m not returning it because color is the least important reason to buy this bag, but be aware. If you’re not much on dull grey with lemon/lime, you’re not going to want silver. If I had to choose again, I’d choose black. Then maybe it would look like the reflective strips actually, you know, reflect.

I’m leaving three stars because I just hate when sellers overstate and photos really mislead, and that’s how I feel about what i bought. If I’d seen the photos and the “reflective” strip was more reflective, this would be a different number of stars. But as it is, nope.

Sturdy and well built. Doesn’t hold quite as much as I expected, but that may be more my having an unrealistic expectation. Love the extra pouch for cash or whatever, as an added safeguard or extra/separate item.

Not 100% certain just how water resistant it will be based on its closure method. Don’t have a lot of faith in it, but will trust the process and hope that this specific issue never needs fully tested.
