I use the NIX capture box under Linux. I’m really pleased with it’s performance in capture. While streaming with OBS the CPU use is acceptable for streaming and the overall stream quality is really nice. There is a color difference between 30 / 60 fps, unfortunately I’m not sure which one is right as i use a really crappy LCD TV hooked to the passthrough. Both look fine while playing (via the passthrough) and when capturing. No amount of tinkering with the video filter could get it 100% the same. I tried every recommendation on the NIX product page and all found here on the amazon reviews. Both look fine to me, the captures look good and the streams are ok.
The capture box itself has excellent build quality. All metal construction on the casing but most importantly the ports are rock solid when plugging in and out cables. My elgato HD Game Capture box’s ports were flimsy and eventually the mini USB port separated from the PCB rendering it useless (this is a known problem). I don’t expect this to happen with the NIX.
Also the packaging looks professional and the box is well secured within. Overall I’m very very happy with my purchase. And the price was so tempting i had to give it a try.

I am using a Acer Nitro 5 AN515 Laptop. The quality you get at this price point is amazing. I am using this capture card as a upgrade from my hauppauge hd pvr 2. While looking around for a USB C capture card, I took a gamble with this company and it paid off. I personally will be sure to use them and suggest them in the future. (mind you this review is coming from the perspective from someone who is a computer nerd & twitch streamer)
Just like most devices, leave it on long enough, it will get a little warm/hot (dont worry doesn’t hurt). The only downside is that the audio has to be added in, its not with the HDMI signal but it works fine with no delay as far as i can tell. In case you need to sync audio. Plugable has a youtube video that shows how you can do it with OBS and similar programs for local recording/streaming. I added a screenshot to show how i have my audio added in alongside the capture source.
I have also added a photo showing the color difference. Left side is my PS TV monitor (ya know the 3d one they sold for the ps3) and on the right is my laptop monitor with OBS Preview at full screen. Due to brightness difference between the two. The OBS preview looks better over whats being shown on the TV in my opinion. However to ensure i get the same quality. I made sure that my PS4 & OBS RGB Limiter is set the same to each other.
If they made a upgraded version of this capture card where the audio doesn’t have to be added as its own source, i would totally buy it again but as a budget gamer/twitch streamer. This card is totally worth the cost and I think you’ll be hard pressed to find this kind of quality at this price point.
