Review
So, I never really write reviews on things I buy because I’m always getting what I expect and am happy with just giving stars… but this MP3 player is AMAZING! Like, okay, when compared to a smartphone it’s a subpar experience, but this isn’t a smartphone, no matter how many people I’ve seen call it a “dumbed down smartphone”. No, stop it, it’s a device that happens to use an OS that most phones use! If anything, think of this as a baby tablet! Now we’ve got that out the way…
This device feels really nice in your hand, the sides are metal and the front and back are glass and it kind of reminds me of an iPhone… it’s just as slippery as an iPhone! There are two 3.5mm jacks which means you could either listen with friends (yah know, if you have any) or plug in a mic and use it as a recording device (already multifunctional and we haven’t gotten to the Android part of the review).
The sides of this device are flat on all edges which is also a plus as it means it can stand up on its own! The screen is fairly balanced (blacks are black, whites are white, with very little bleed. The speakers are very trebly
and there’s little to no base, but for a built-in speaker, what can you expect? The dirty buds that come with this nugget are also decent and good for the everyday user (me… I am not an audiophile I just care if I can blast my ears out with bass). The inclusion of USB-C is nice because it means you don’t have to add a new weird cable to your collection (looking at you SansDisk).
I don’t get why people are saying the volume is low, I played a song from here and my iPhone at max volume and they sounded exactly the same, and I even connected a pair of Bluetooth buds to it, maxed it out, and noticed no difference besides ringing ears. Then again, I ain’t using this to blast music in my ears and become deaf, I’m already blind!
For internal storage, you actually get about 24.65 after the system is installed… still a good starter amount and I have a feeling most of us are putting in a 32/64gb card in any way (and for those psychopaths, 1tb).
Instead of coming with an SD to USB adapter like I’ve had some MP3 players come with, it came with USB-C and Micro-USB adapters to plug into your phone? It’s a choice, and an interesting one, and I don’t really know fully if it has much use.
The screen protectors that come with it are plastic and I have no idea if it would actually fully protect it, so I’d suggest buying something like a liquid screen protector.
Now, software! It comes with an amazing array of default music apps, (Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon), e-book apps, and even TikTok for some reason? The default look is a little annoying but can be easily changed by installing a launcher APK (I have the Microsoft one installed). The overall needing to install APK files and having no built-in app store can be a bit annoying when it comes to putting apps on your MP3 player, but services like F-Droid and APKPure have things that make it easier (APKPure is my favorite).
The Wi-Fi is a bit slow to load but decent for everything else, and being able to read books on it is fun.
All and all, this is a great device to disconnect from the world and be able to listen to music, read (maybe play a game), and not worry about anything! This thing could even be an introductory device for pre-teens to give them a phone-like experience without fully giving them a phone (if that is something you are worried about). The only downer is I wish I could have gotten one in red! It’s perfect for me, perfect for my use case and I am very happy, especially coming from something like a TIMMKOO! I could even control my Fitbit with this thing so 👌
