This Video Capture box is kinda cool and can display 4 HDMI sources in either Quad View, Stacked View, Picture in Picture or Full Screen. It’s easy to use however it has some limitations.
••• Resolution •••
This box will only output 1080P resolution and will not support 4K either as an input or output;
••• Camera Switcher •••
This unit cannot be used as a LIVE Camera switcher because there is a LAG and On Screen Display that flashes onto the screen each time you switch on change input or audio settings.
••• Audio •••
While you can select and switch the audio output there is no way to monitor the audio from each feed through headphones or a monitor jack of some sort. This again limits the ability of this unit and cannot be used as a live camera video switcher.
••• PROS •••
This video switch does a decent job of taking four 1080P HDMI video feeds and displaying them as one ‘QUAD’ or ‘Stacked’ display on one screen. It also works well with PIP and capturing a single camera image and audio.
This video switch also works nicely as a LIVE QUAD MATRIX VIDEO DISPLAY Device and is useful for displaying four HDMI Video Feeds onto a Single 1080P TV. This would work for example if you wanted to set up your own video matrix screen in your basement and project four Sports Feeds onto a big projection TV. Keep in mind you could only have Audio playing for one (1) source but you could watch 4 TV shows or live baseball, football or hockey games on one big screen. If you want to do this you will also need four (4) HDMI sources, either firesticks, Roku sticks, cable boxes or streaming boxes etc ….
••• Conclusion – Recommendation •••
Overall this is a very basic video capture device with the ability to capture four 1080P video feeds and output them as a single Picture in Quad, Stacked, PIP or single frame configurations.
This box also provides you with the ability to select audio from a single source and output the audio as well as the video from the source you select.
You can connect the video switcher to your computer where it will show up as a Capture Card or Device. You can then stream or record to your computer from the video switcher
At $200 this video capture switcher does more than single capture cards but also costs 2-4x more than a single HDMI Capture device. The switching and matrix display outputs seem appealing at first glance however they do have a number of limitations which may preclude you from using the device for the purpose you intend. Read carefully and think about what you want to do with this unit before clicking the buy now to make sure this is device will do what you want it to do.
I would not recommend this unit as a live camera switcher.
