I bought two of these to fix an outdoor run at a client’s location. The first one installed as expected. The second switch would not allow me to turn on DHCP or even set a static IP within the IP range of my network. I had to pull that switch, return it (after emailing with support), reorder it, then return to my client’s site. The replacement switch was doing the same thing: would not pull an IP and I couldn’t set an IP. After an hour or so of troubleshooting, I discovered that both of the switches shared the same MAC address and, of course, that cannot be changed. Because of that, my router was doing the correct thing of not allowing two devices with duplicate MAC addresses onto the network. On top of that, I discovered that if one of these switches is just power cycled, it loses its settings and reverts to default. So two major issues if you have more than one of these on your network: 1. Your network will freak out because it sees two devices with the same MAC. 2. If the units lose power, they will all revert to the default IP so you won’t be able to log in to an individual switch to adjust settings after losing power and who knows what else will happen.
I had contacted the seller and the manufacturer after my first issue and they were responsive and asked me to exchange the switch. After bringing these larger issues to their attention, they have not responded. All three of the switches I ordered are being returned.
These are dangerous to have on your network. If you need just 1 then you might be able to clunk along but these are just not a quality professional option. 2 stars for being decently priced and having a pretty good feature set on paper. If they fixed the MAC address and power cycling issue this would be a five star product and a wonderful value. It’s really too bad.
