Overall, very pleased with this unit. I’ve used it to connect to several PC’s now (laptops, and super-small form machines with no DVD drive), and it has worked easily with all of them. Just plug and play. Nice that it does not require a power supply of its own. Haven’t had any problem with any of the DVD’s I’ve tried so far, works about as well as the built-in drive on my larger computers. The extremely small form factor is great for portability. Being as small as it is, it seems kind of delicate, so you have to be a little careful when loading and unloading a disc. Couple of minor issues: Again, because it’s so small, there’s seems to be no sound baffling at all, so there is a distinct whirring/scratching sound while a disc is in use, although this is usually only heard when there is no sound from the movie (or whatever you’re listening to). And, when playing a disc, there is a CONSTANT flashing yellow LED on the front of the drive. Turning it in another direction is the simple solution. But how about a solid green light, instead of a flashing yellow? It looks like it’s indicating a problem, when there isn’t one.

Not much to say, compact and works. No problem with the laptop recognizing the reader. Loaded the software no problem. Felt like it was doing a lot of reading and moving the head but that may be the DVD software. Loaded fast for the large program that it was. Unit is fairly light weight, solid built, but I am thinking it won’t stand up to banging around in the laptop bag too much. I would be cool if there was a neoprene case for these to add a layer of protection when in storage.

((Update: the company reached out to me within a day or two of my writing this review, which I was surprised by, considering that it was just before Christmas. I received a message from them today that they can send me a replacement or reimburse me. Considering that most of the people who buy this product love it, I was planning to buy another one anyway, but I wasn’t sure if I would qualify to be fully reimbursed after almost a year. They have great customer service! ))

I bought this last January because my new laptop doesn’t have a cd drive. I left it in the box and didn’t use it until the return date was passed, but it has never quite worked. The first time I used it, it wouldn’t play the movie and the tray would not open. Most of the time it won’t turn on at all when I plug it in, and when it does, I put the disc in and it spins around then turns off, or the disc gets stuck in there and it won’t open. I have used a pin to open the tray to get the disc out, and I keep plugging it in again, hoping I just missed something or did something wrong. Since it was past the amazon return date by the time I found out it didn’t work, I had given up hope of getting a refund and I can’t figure out how to contact the company. I have held onto it for almost a year now, and I’m ready to throw it away. Help!
