Been using it for over a year. Just started to see now how it doesnt work right. I plug it in and most of the time theres no light indicating that its functioning. When im able to get it open, it takes the disc and it does not read the disc nor let me open it again. I have to keep pressing eject and repluging the device for it to come back. Im not sure if i got a faulty device or not, but i should not have to do that.

This drive does an okay job. I bought it so I could make backups of my BluRay and DVD movies.

It can only be accurate described as finicky. Sometimes it will read the disk, sometimes it won’t. Sometimes it works over USB with external power, sometimes it only works on USB-C.

Sometimes the disks work great. Sometimes (the same) disks sputter and spin and never register. I never really know what’s going to happen.

If you like uncertainty from your hardware then you’ll love this drive.

I just want something that works reliably, and I hate that I spent so much money on this unpredictably frustrating product.

If I could send it back for a new one I would.

People seem to either love or hate this drive. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter camp. Multiple computers, multiple discs. It doesn’t seem to make a difference. The drive light blinks, it sounds like it is working… but it isn’t. I was able to get it to read some music CDs after a struggle, but that’s not what I bought it for. I’m sure there are better options, and I’ll let you know when I find one. But for now, do yourself a favor and avoid this one.

I like to watch my Blu-Ray movies on my PC, for me the PC is my all-in-one entertainment centre. This unit was recognized immediately by Windows and installed the drivers no problem. Within a few minutes I was watching Blu-Ray again. You’ll need to download your own software to play the discs, but there are free options available for that online.
For years I was using a name brand (Samsung) player. Mechanically it still works fine, but Samsung and Windows have stopped supporting it and it no longer has proper drivers. Windows only wees it as a DVD player now. I’d say this new unit works just as well as the Samsung player.
I haven’t tried writing any discs, it’s not what I bought this for anyway.
Only downside, this unit doesn’t have a detachable USB wire, it is hard-wired on the machine. It does have a moulded storage area underneath for the wire, but still, if anything happens to the wire the player will be useless.
