I recently purchased the Depstech Webcam 4k DW 50 from Amazon, hoping to enhance my online teaching experience as a professor. As someone heavily reliant on webcams for conducting classes, I sought a high-quality camera that would provide smooth video streaming at a consistent 30 frames per second (fps). Unfortunately, my experience with this webcam has left me disappointed.
Upon receiving the product, I immediately noticed that the webcam only reached a maximum frame rate of 21-22fps. Concerned about this discrepancy, I reached out to the Depstech support team to inquire if there were any configuration adjustments that could be made to achieve the promised 30fps.
In my report to the support team, I emphasized that I am meticulous about creating optimal lighting conditions during my classes, maximizing available illumination. Additionally, I highlighted that my internet bandwidth is a substantial 300 Mbps, which should be more than sufficient for smooth video streaming. Furthermore, I mentioned that the integrated webcam on my Dell Inspiron i15-3583 notebook (Intel Core i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 16,0 GB), I am able to achieve frame rate of 31fps.
To my disappointment, the response I received from the support team indicated that I would need to adjust the resolution of the Depstech Webcam 4k DW 50 to 720p or even lower to achieve the desired frame rate. They explained that the camera’s frame rate should be greater than 21fps under these conditions. Furthermore, they stated that to maintain the image quality at 30fps without reducing it, I would require an internet bandwidth greater than 300 Mbps.
What has left me particularly disappointed is the fact that the camera’s specifications fail to mention the necessity of a high internet bandwidth to achieve the promised 30fps. As a customer, it is crucial to have accurate and transparent information about a product’s capabilities, especially when it comes to performance-related specifications.
Considering the limitations and the lack of clarity surrounding the camera’s frame rate and internet bandwidth requirements, I am now actively seeking alternative options. Brands like Anker and Logitech are known for their reliable webcams, and I will explore their offerings to find a more suitable solution that meets my expectations.
In conclusion, while the Depstech Webcam 4k DW 50 may have its merits, I cannot overlook the disappointment caused by its inability to achieve the advertised frame rate without compromising image quality. I hope that Depstech takes customer feedback into consideration and provides more accurate and comprehensive information about their products in the future.
