A video on youtube had a link to this product. Not sure what the differences are between so many similar. This product ended up great. Quality looks very good. Had a thorough manual and OE looking cables and module. Had a bunch of zip ties and foam included. Once installed in my 2017 MX-5, everything worked perfectly. Had full use of the steering wheel buttons and center console buttons. I am not sure but I think Mazda locks out the touch screen when in motion.

Install on an MX-5: I did not remove the shifter console! It took about 45 minutes in all. Follow the youtube video to get to the cmu. Then do the following: For the USB module, remove the passenger side center console side trim in the footwell. Remove the “H” looking trim to the sides of the USB module. Remove the Seat heater controls/airbag lights module above the USB module. From the side where you removed the passenger console trim, you should see top and bottom clips of the USB module you want to remove. Take a long but small flat head screw driver and one-by-one break the clips. It should be easy to push it out from behind now. Saved me so much time doing it this way and I hope it does for you too! Remember, all trim is held in by clips or fits like a jigsaw puzzle. NEVER force anything. A nudge and a pull should be all that it takes. I broke nothing on mine installing it. There are a couple of good youtube videos for the MX-5 that you can look at before you start.

Works perfect 2015 Mazda 3 (no touch for Android Auto though)

I have a sedan 2015 Mazda 3 Sport (Mexico Build). I had previously done the software update so it was ready to go for the hardware stuff. Everything was plug and play. Removing the infotainment was actually easy, but removing the USB was involving. I had to remove entire center console to get to it.

I can confirm both Android Auto and CarPlay works flawlessly. The OEM SD Card for the GPS also works well.

The ONLY negative is that while Apple CarPlay is touch enabled, Android Auto is not for whatever reason. Nothing in settings on either infotainment nor phone. But at least it’s easy to navigate with the center button and “Hey Google” voice commands do work.

Product worked okay for the first few days but now it doesn’t work at all. CarPlay will pop up for a minute but then disconnect and will not work until the car is turned off and back on. Second USB port doesn’t even work at all. I would not recommend this product at all, look elsewhere.

I’m super happy with this, it works perfectly! As somebody who has never even done an oil change, installation was a bit challenging and took about 2.5 hours, and I somehow managed to get grease on my hands. (Watch the steering column)

Note that you will need some tools: a blank USB drive (to update the firmware), a Phillips screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver (to remove the old radio) an 8mm socket, and a plastic spudger (to seperate some pieces of the dash)

Also I think it’s worth saying that the touchscreen on my car barely works, but I just use the center console media controls and it works fine even with the increased complexity of Android auto.

Buy this now, you won’t regret it!

So far I’m not happy with this purchase. It took me nearly three hours to install (granted I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to my car), but almost immediately I started having issues. It works maybe half of the time. The primary issue being the message “No CarPlay device detected.” This is curious because if I don’t plug in my phone, no message appears. When it does work it’s frequently slow/freezes for a moment or two, and twice now has blacked out the screen on the car until I shut the car off.

Needless to say, I’m very frustrated at this point.

I’m in the process of troubleshooting and will update accordingly. I have service scheduled at the dealership to update the firmware. In the meantime I’m going to test with other devices (another iPhone and an Android) to try and determine if the issue is the hub (you know, what I’m reviewing), the car, or the phone.

UPDATE: The installed firmware was the earliest possible firmware that was compatible with this hub. After taking the car to the dealership for an update, the hub now works better than it had.

It’s far from perfect though I think it might be my phone that takes the blame. While lightening cables are not directional, it doesn’t always connect when plugging it in to the car. Sometimes I need to unplug the cord, rotate it 180° then plug it back in, which is frustrating. It’s also quite slow, but I suspect that’s more of a Mazda issue.

All in all, I’m just happy to have CarPlay in my car. This is much cheaper than OEM, so if you’re trying to save some money, this is the part for you.

This is a good alternative to Mazda OEM pricing on a Carplay/Android Auto retrofit hub and cable set.

No issues at all with the installation. Instructions were as clear as can be expected with something that does require a little specialized knowledge.
Cables were long enough to route around shifter and emergency brake on my 2015 Mazda 3 without being so long I would need to find room to bundle them. Adhesive foam was ample to wrap the cables and there were plenty of zip ties included.

Hub works as expected, with Android Auto functionality, faster phone charging and factory navigation SD card working flawlessly.

If you’re comfortable upgrading your car’s CMU firmware with a USB stick (before installing any hardware) and doing some basic interior disassembly and reassembly, this kit will allow you to enjoy a more modern infotainment experience.
