The Capture Card generally performs well, efficiently linking video to OBS Studio. However, there have been occasional issues with audio transfer, creating a somewhat inconsistent user experience. While it gets the job done most of the time, the occasional hiccups in audio transmission can be frustrating for users relying on seamless integration with OBS Studio.

This review is for the avedio links “4K” HDMI Video Capture device, featuring a USB 3.0 connection to your computer and an HDMI pass-through port for lag-free capture (Model: 6122-OM, Color: Grey). I got this device to help capture gameplay footage for a work project. Overall, using the avedio links capture device was as easy as plug-and-play, but the lack of adjustable settings makes it a rather limited entry-level offering. While the recording quality is usable for games, the 1080p capture is not pixel-perfect, with small text and icons appearing blurry and desaturated. I’d recommend sticking with 1080p sources and capturing at 1080p or 720p. I wish there were adjustable recording parameters since I feel the final result is too over-sharpened and darker than expected.

I do not recommend using this device for 4K applications since the HDMI pass-through function downgrades your monitor’s capabilities, and the 4K capture output is downscaled to 1080p. My monitor supports 4K@60 with HDR without chroma subsampling, but through the HDMI pass-through port on the avedio links capture device, HDR no longer works; 4K@60Hz is only possible using 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, and it’s limited to 4K@30Hz if we want 4:4:4. The actual capture resolution is 1080p at 60Hz, so when using a 4K monitor, the picture is automatically resized. In my test recordings, chroma subsampling is apparent no matter what, so sacrificing frame rate for better color accuracy and image clarity isn’t a worthwhile trade-off.

Notes:
1) It has a separate microphone input and headphone output, but I didn’t use them.
2) In violation of USB standards, the device uses a USB-A connector as the upstream port. On the bright side, the capture device works entirely off USB bus power, and the included cable can be configured to support systems with either USB-A or USB-C ports.

Bloats your hard drive

I captured/streamed through VLC player and used Simple Screen Recorder to record everything to an external hard drive. Somehow, this gadget bloated the hell out of that hard drive and my root drive, when I barely recorded anything. I had terabytes to spare. Now, I need to backup and reimage everything. I took it apart, and it looked so overengineered, lord knows what it is capable of. I found some antenna software (named antenna.assets.meta, which has the same file type as a Unity 3D file) which slipped onto my machine though, so it may not be as safe/secure as you might think. My PC is 100% offline, due to sensitive trade secrets, and I’m not very happy that I have to back everything up and reimage everything. The proc directory of the root file system had all kinds of screwy files in it. I don’t know if the main IC on the device has an antenna in it or not, but it looks like a full-blown microcontroller which might contain an antenna. I may look into it and update this review.

Update: the seller issued me a full refund. I still haven’t looked into this IC to see if it has an antenna, but I suspect it does. My gut feeling is that they are a respectable company, and if you are not mixed up in corporate espionage and/or do not have stream snipers trying to steal your identity, this product is probably safe for you. I have updated my review accordingly.

The media could not be loaded.

I have this plugged in with an HDMI splitter to my computer and the TV so I can switch back and forth whenever I feel like it like on the video. To my surprise, this works well, image quality and sound are top notch especially for the price.

The only con I have for this is the HDMI cables being only 3 ft, but at 2023, who doesnt have extra HDMI cables lying around right? So not enough to take a star out

This is an easy to use device and does what it says on the box, simple to set up and operate. Viddeo quality is fine as well. Only issue i had was it sometimes cut off the bottom of the picture by a few pixels. Not world ending but possibly an annoyance to some users.

Ich habe diese Produkt im Rahmen des Vine Programms zum Test erhalten.

Ich hatte zuvor schon eine “Testreihe” mit HDMI-Capture Sticks durchgeführt, da ich eine günstigere Alternative zu meinem Elgato CamLink4k suchte, die in 1080p bei 60Hz eine vergleichbare Bildqualität hat. Die USB 3.0 Sticks basierten dabei zwei alle auf dem gleichen Macrosilicon Chip, schienen aber verschiedene Firmwarestände zu haben, so dass bei einigen die Bildqualität super, bei anderen aber schlecht (verzerrt & pixelig) war.

Dieses Gerät ist eigentlich etwas anders positioniert, es bietet einen HDMI-Passthrough und zusätzliche die Möglichkeit Sound über den Mikrofoneingang in das USB Output einzuschleifen. Getestet habe ich es aber unter anderem auch an meiner DSLM.

Und da hat es – wie die “guten” Sticks aus meinem Test auch, eine wirklich hervorragende Bildquali, die dem CamLink4k in der 1080p60Hz -Auflösung absolut ebenbürtig ist! Ist auch der gleiche Macrosilicon-Chipsatz wie bei den anderen Sticks.

Ich habe dieses Gerät dann aber auch noch auf seine “Zusatznutzen” getestet, und bin ebenso positiv überrascht:
– Ich habe die Karte zum Passthrough an meinen 4k-Monitor bei 60Hz gehängt, das Signal wird ohne Verluste oder Lag durchgeschleift, das USB-Capturing ist aber – wie im auch angegeben – nur in 1080p60Hz. Aber sehr schön, dass die Darstellung auf dem Monitor durch das Passthrough in keinster Weise beeinträchtigt wird.
– Positiv bin ich auch vom Mikrofoneingang überrascht: meine Kamera überträgt über ihren HDMI-Out leider nicht das Audio ihrer eingebauten Mikrofone, so kann man dann zumindest ein externes Mikrofon mit einspeisen, was auch sehr gut klingt, nicht schlecht! Man sollte aber beachten dass das Mikrofon nicht (zusätzlich) in den HDMI-Downstream eingeschleift wird, aber das hatte ich auch nicht erwartet.

Einen einzigen winzigen Kritikpunkt habe ich aber: der USB-Anschluss am Gerät ist eben kein “Geräteanschluss”, sondern eine USB-A Buchse die eigentlich nur an Hosts genutzt werden soll. Das führt dazu dass das beiliegende Kabel etwas speziell ein Stecker-auf-Stecker -Kabel ist. Gibt es auch bei anderen Geräten, ist aber afaik im USB-Standard so nicht vorgesehen. Besser man hätte eine USB-B Buchse, oder gleich USB-C vorgesehen. So konnte ich nur das beiliegende – und leider recht kurze – Kabel benutzen. Etwas blöd.

Insgesamt: bisher der beste bzw. nützlichste Stick in meiner kleinen “Vine-Testreihe”. Der Passthrough, und insbesondere der Mikrofon-Eingang sind echte, nützliche Zusatzfeatures! Leider wird zum Zeitpunkt dieses Tests kein Preis auf Amazon angezeigt, aber wenn er nicht signifikant mehr kostet als die Sticks mit dem gleichen Chip, würde ich dieses Gerät in jedem Fall vorziehen, fünf Sterne!

Für Full-HD ein gutes und günstiges Capture-Device. Im Paket enthalten sind ein HDMI-Kabel und ein USB-/USB-C Kabel.
Der Anschluss sollte zumindest an einem stromführenden USB 3.0 Port erfolgen, da sonst die Spannung nicht ausreicht, da das USB-Kabel nur der Datenübertragung dient, aber das Gerät nicht ausreichend Strom erhält.

Das HDMI-Signal kann durch das Gerät durchgeschliffen werden, um es direkt in den Signalweg zu hängen. Zusätzlich können Mikrofon und Kopfhörer angeschlossen werden. Bis 1080p/60 FPS und darunter ist das Gerät wirklich zu gebrauchen, alles darüber ist nicht empfehlenswert. Hier können alle Geräte von Kamera über den PC bis hin zur Spielekonsole aufgenommen und an einen Streaming-PC weitergereicht werden, allerdings nicht ganz ohne Delay.

Im Moment ist das Gerät nicht erhältlich, daher kann ich keine Aussage zu P/L-Verhältnis machen.

This Capture Card is a real gem for recording both video and sound, and it plays nice with USB 3.0. It’s a dream for streaming, gaming, and content creation as it supports 4K video capture. It’s compatible with the PS5, Switch, cameras, PCs, and OBS. It delivers top-notch video and audio quality for streaming. The only hiccup is the laughably short cables that come with it. The USB 3 connector is barely 12 inches, potentially not even long enough for the device to reach your desktop – leaving it hanging mid-air. You might need to shell out for a substantially longer USB-3 cable for any sort of convenience. But overall, it’s a great bit of kit for any starter up.
