I purchased multiple products to attempt to capture my Cannon Camera for livestreaming. The internal cards I bought from another company required PCIe slots a I do not have accessible. This one did with the 1x slot. I also tried a USB link device that I constantly had to reconnect to use.

This one, I took it out of the box, opened my PC case, and popped this card into the open 1x slot, plugged in my camera, and viola! it worked perfectly from the get go. I was even able to have some fun and feed the passthrough into my USB capture link thing and make TWO MEs!!! LOL

Great product so far, will update if that changes. Worth the $$ especially on sale. Used to capture a Nintendo Switch AND a second PC with perfect results each time.

I’m a HUGE fan of AVerMedia. Let’s get that out of the way now. I’ve been using their capture cards going back to the Live Gamer HD 2 and before this, the Live Gamer 4K. Outside of some occasional weirdness with the Live Gamer HD 2 on my old X99 system, they’ve never given me any trouble and have really allowed me to expand what I do for livestreams.

The Live Gamer Duo is unique from previous entries in that it offers 2 HDMI inputs instead of the single input found on most cards. Now, I know that after this product came out, Elgato released the Camlink Pro, which allows four inputs, but at the time, this was the best way to get multiple inputs, which has become a must for modern livestreams now that DSLR and mirrorless cameras have become the go-to instead of webcams.

There are limitations to be aware of right away, the most disappointing for most creators is that neither input is capable of recording above 1080p60. HDMI 1 can pass through 4kp60 with HDR, but you can’t record it. HDMI 2 is limited even more, only allowing up to 1080p60, although given current streaming standards, this isn’t as big of a deal as some would make it out to be. It’s still worth noting those limitations, as if you need the 4k recording, the Camlink Pro is probably the better route to go.

Those limitations aside, for streaming, they’re mostly irrelevant as most people attempting to stream will max out at 1080p60 anyway regardless of what they’re doing. And frankly, the card does handle both inputs with ease. I’ve done a few streams now where I’ve utilized both inputs and it has performed exactly as I’ve needed it to. If recording is the main thing you’re doing and 4k matters, again, you’ll want to consider other options. Or you can do what I was able to do with my current build, and have a Live Gamer 4k in the system at the same time as the Duo (yes, it works). But that isn’t always going to be possible unless you have a lot of PCI-e lanes to work with.

In terms of setup, AVerMedia’s products continue to be very easy. Insert it into a PCI-e slot, power on your system, and install the driver from their website and you should be good to go. You don’t need to run their software, although it is required if you want to change the RGB lighting on the front of the card. Beyond that, it should be detected by your preferred streaming software without issue. This product, like the Live Gamer 4k, allows you to use the lighting for status effects, such as recording and if there’s an issue with the product.

The recording limitations aside, this product works very well and will allow you to use your favorite camera along with your console and/or gaming PC (if on a dual-PC set-up) instead of having to choose one or the other. I’m hoping that down the road, AVerMedia releases an updated version that allows for 4k60 recording, but for my purposes, this is more than enough. As I stated earlier, I’ve managed to get both the Live Gamer 4k and Duo working at the same time, which solves the 4k recording situation as that capture card is capable of recording up to 4k60.

If you’re looking for a dual capture card for around $200 (the price as of writing this) and don’t mind the lack of 4k recording, you can’t go wrong with this one.

New Update*: Initiated a return on this item as it cannot fit the needs of my expectations. This capture card apparently does not allow you to game at 1440p and record at 1080p. This is not the companies or products fault. It has more to do with my lack of knowledge on streaming/capturing. If you are new to streaming/recording and you have a 1440p monitor or higher this will not work for you. Gaming will be forced at 1080 unless you disconnect the card. Purchase a card that does 1440p and up to fit your needs. For 1080p this card worked just fine and as such my original review remains the same.

Updated Review: So far it works. I tried using RecCenter4 which is the software for it as well as OBS third party software and both seem to work just fine. I can’t really provide technical details since I don’t know what im doing in relation to streaming or recording. Recorded a few 1080p game play vids that ran pretty smoothly and did not affect my game play during the recording session. Also liked the features RecCenter 4 provides just need to learn how to use it more efficiently. Overall: The install is very easy, plug the card in, connect the HDMI cord and you’re all set. Very little if any impact to game play while capturing recorded video. Hopefully the card lasts long.

Original review: I cant really review it since I think mines was DOA. Tried three different pcie slots and the card would not power on. Tried on another pc and it caused a system crash.

Excellent purchase for retro gamers

I can only speak for my personal use case, and for what I bought this for, it’s perfect. I bought the 4K Live Gamer for capturing 4K footage of retro games for my youtube channel and it’s handled everything I have thrown at it with almost zero lag.

If your intention is to use this capture card in a similar way to me, then it will do everything you want. I originally used this with the OSSC, with the 4K Live Gamer accepting every signal I input. I have since bought a Retrotink 5x, and while researching before buying the Retrotink, I saw many not getting the 1440 signal detected by the 4KLG. I bought it anyway, as 1080p was acceptable, and I wanted the composite signal the Retrotink accepts. I was pleasantly surprised when the 4KLG accepted every signal the Retrotink x5 output. This is the same for the OSSC, I saw scaremongering of the same type about OSSC not accepting signals, but unless I received some magical version of the 4KLG, everything works great.

Consoles I have tried are as follows; NES, N64, SNES, Megadrive, Mastersystem, PS1, PS2 and OG Xbox. Note though, consoles that require it, have been modded to output an RGB signal (which most stock retro consoles will not do), and I have spent £100s buying the best quality retro cables and modding my consoles which helps the signal quality. Regardless though, at the end of the day, all these consoles signals are being processed through the OSSC or Retrotink 5x, so if you are planning to use these upscalers, this is the ultimate capture card. I cannot speak for older Retrotinks or the Framemeister, but I have seen people struggling with the signal swapping delay and video output of the Framemeister as it is old tech now.

Not all is positive though, I found the customer support incredibly unhelpful. I don’t believe English was the first language of person I was emailing, so I will go easy. I was getting a popping sound in the audio, and support E-mail reply I got was along the lines of “these are the common fixes, if it doesn’t help, we won’t offer any further support”. I’m paraphrasing of course, but considering the fix had nothing to do with what they offered, I have very little trust in them to offer genuine support.

I’ll quickly run through some technical setup tips and problem fixes that I had in case it helps someone else. First off, PCIe has become far more complicated, so you might have speed problems based on the age and spec of your PC. PCIe has individual lanes that shares bandwidth when multiple devices are used. I would suggest not buying this if you don’t have at least a gen 2 PCIe board, and even then, due to the bandwidth 4K uses, you might have issues if using less than Gen 3. Assuming your 16x lane is housing your GPU, you will probably be using the x8 lane for this card. This is important, because some motherboards will only allow either a M.2 NVME drive, or use of the PCIe slot not both. My point is, it’s worth seriously looking into your motherboards specs and how you have configured it before you buy this as the 4x lane will probably be too slow for capturing 4K. Since buying this I have upgraded to an ASUS ROG x670 EXTREME motherboard, which is a top end £1k board paired with a Ryzen 9 7850x3d, if you have anything like this, this card will be no problem at all no matter how you configure it.

My second point is related to the problem I was having with the audio cracking. Little embarrassing but make sure you are using good quality HDMI cables and I suggest not using a cable longer than 2m max. After I bought a high quality 4K cable, I realised there was a cable in the 4K Live Gamer box, so fool on me I suppose but it did fix the issue. I can confirm that long HDMI cables will lead to an unstable signal. For me, anything over 2M would cause the picture to keep dropping out.

Regardless of the poor customer service, I still give this 5 stars as it really is a fantastic card. I had an Elgato 4K card and it was a nightmare, very picky about signals and cables, making it pretty much trash for what I wanted to use it for. So, in summary, if you are looking for a card that works great with OSSC and Retrotink 5x, this is a must buy over anything Elgato offers. I haven’t tested it with modern consoles like PS5 and Xbox series X, but I really can’t see it having any issues as they are the modern standard of video signal.

Just to be clear, I am using this with a RTX4090, but I was using it in my backup rig with a 2080 Super, and it works just as good rendering a 4K capture. I cannot speak to the compatibility with AMD or Intel GPU’s.

Después de haber sido usuario muchos años de Avermedia con la Live Gamer Portable y la Live Gamer Extreme, cometí el error de probar otras marcas para saltar al 4K HDR. He probado la alternativa de ElGato y no me convenció. Sonido deficiente y problemas de sincronización. Por su parte las externas 4K 60fps de DigitNow son auténtica basura, no caigáis en la trampa del precio. Por suerte el excelente servicio de Amazon Prime me resolvió un error grave en garantía.

Al final esta Live Gamer 4K interna es apuesta segura. Capturando PS5 rinde los 60 fps sin despeinarse, con audio impecable.

Compra muy recomendable.

Vengo de 9 años de usar capturadoras de la competencia, pero es que esta avermedia es chulísima gracias a su RGB.

Todo funciona a la perfección, su software incluido es el mejor de toda su competencia de capturadoras que incluyen software de grabación.

La única cosa negativa que le veo, y eso en si no es tanto culpa de la capturadora si no de mis audífonos es: La compré con la intención de usar mi Xbox Series X y PlayStation 5, activarles la salida de audio 5.1 y poder escucharlo en mis audífonos Astro A50. El problema es que la capturadora solo soporta 5.1 y 7.1 pero en audio PCM, y mis audífonos solo soportan Dolby Digital para el 7.1 y el 5.1, en PCM solo soportan sonido estéreo.

Ich habe die Karte nun bereits ein paar Jahre und sie läuft noch immer. Da wird alles angeschlossen, von PS3-PS5 und alles läuft einwandfrei. Auch die RGB Beleuchtung macht nen schönen Eindruck und kann in der RecCentral Software eingestellt werden.
Einziges Manko ist aber das aktualisieren der RecCentral Software Suite von AverMedia. Sie lässt sie oftmals nicht updaten und man muss die gesamte Software deinstallieren und dann die neue installieren.

Wer am PC seine Konsolen zocken möchte oder streamen möchte, ist mit dieser 4K CaptureCard sehr gut bedient.

Avermedia es una compañía que no habríamos considerado si no fuera por el precio al que ofrecen sus productos. No tienen la fama de ElGato ni Black Magic, pero ofrecen piezas con buenas características a un precio muy competitivo.

Al ser una tarjeta PCIe 4x, requiere de un slot de buen tamaño, usualmente un 16x adicional al usado para la tarjeta de gráficos. Aunque técnicamente podría colocarse en un puerto 1x, no es recomendable por que esto limita el ancho de banda disponible.

Al ser interna, la tarjeta no ocupa espacio en el escritorio ni un puerto USB.
Pero a cambio, requiere una mejor planeación para ordenar los cables de entrada y salida de video.
Al tener dos puertos de entrada y uno de salida, la tarjeta es perfecta para capturar una cámara y una consola a la vez.
Su función de passthrough permite que una de estas entradas pueda salir a otro dispositivo, como un monitor, para evitar que la latencia aumente demasiado.

Una consideración es que los drivers nos han causado algunos problemas en Windows 10, que han requerido a veces reiniciar la computadora.
