What’s new in this second edition of Apps and Services with .NET 8?

This edition delves into cloud-native technologies, including Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Functions, with a focus on data storage, querying, and serverless nano services. A highlight is the new chapter on Caching, Queuing, and Resilient Background Services, teaching scalability, performance, and resilience.

For software developers navigating the ever-evolving tech landscape, this book bridges the gap, helping you discern which technologies to learn and enjoy.

How is this book different from similar titles, and what’s your favorite part of the book?

Unlike other books, Apps and Services with .NET 8 covers a range of technologies. It guides readers from basic concepts to hands-on implementation, allowing them to see the technology in action in their own environment.

My favorite part of the book is the services section because it highlights the pros and cons of all the modern ways to build services. It starts with building HTTP-based services using ASP.NET Core Minimal APIs that can be native ahead-of-time compiled to give fast startup and minimal memory footprint. Then there are chapters for SignalR, gRPC, and GraphQL. By the end of the section, the reader has learned common best practices that apply to all service technologies, as well as when to select each of the other technologies.

I’m also pleased with the new chapter about caching, queuing, and resilient services, because those techniques are used throughout all types of apps and services to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
