Love it. My Samsung 970/960 EVO NVME drives fly with this. Only thing missing is a dedicated usb-c to usb-c. Instead bundled in a dongle. But quality is good, weight is good. The colour matches my MBP space grey which I do adore.
The read/write times are unreal. I copied a 200 GB VM of Windows 10 for VMware Fusion in a matter of seconds. Also was able to run OSes (win 10 and Ubuntu) as bootable drives from my MBP 2018. Felt like they were internal. Have never been able to run USB HD with amazing performance. It’s unreal, it kind of mitigates the lack of upgradeable Components in apples MacBooks when I’m running Win 10 in boot camp off a USB NVME drive like this. What a time to be alive!
Also I can run VMs off the drive directly. The boot and shutdown times are quick, and honestly can’t tell the difference from the internal HD, and apples m.2 2018 are scary fast.
Update: Still loving this drive. I actually formatted one of them as exFAT and was able to use pretty big Unity3D and Unreal Engine 4 Project(s) (each ~ 15-20 GB apiece, with 200-250k files total). Transfer times are crazy fast, and also I’m able to open the projects inside each respective editor with nearly no impact. Only one qualm I have is the thermal dissipation, they’re getting very hot to the touch, and I’m afraid if I keep going this rate for long periods of time, it’ll cut the life of the drive. Aside from that, I am still 1000% satisfied. For those out there thinking about buying a cheaper option, don’t. The case does make a different. and USB 3.1 has a 10GBps throughput, don’t settle for less or cheaper.
