The SODOLA 8-Port Gigabit PoE Switch is a well built piece of network equipment. It has 2 Gigabit upload ports which basically makes it a 10-port Gigabit switch if you wish to use it as just a straight Ethernet switch. I have started using this switch for a couple of security cameras and to connect some other peripherals to the Gigabit network. My previous PoE switch was just a 10/100 switch. It is nice having this one as a Gigabit switch to match the rest of my network.
Others have mentioned that the port LEDs don’t do much. They do light up when a port is occupied and also flash with network activity. I have major brand switches that behave the exact same way. Yes, there are switches where the LEDs change color depending on the connection type which is pretty handy; 10/100 or Gigabit. The LEDs are along the bottom of the switch and not next to each port. There is a line leading from each LED to the port it represents. Interesting.
I really like the layout of the front panel. It is a nice looking piece of equipment. The metal housing is also very nice and is always cool to the touch.
I did not have the opportunity to test the VLAN functionality of this switch. But others have reported that is works great. I will take their word for it. I just happen to not have the need for a VLAN.
The price range for this switch is very reasonable considering all that you get with the switch and the build quality. Time will tell how well the internal components will hold up. I will update my review if this switch ends up dying in what I would consider an inferior period of time. I fully expect this switch to last a long time since it runs so cool and based upon the external build quality.
The directions that come with this switch are very generic and tries to cover all of their products. I did not take away a star for this because let’s face it, it is just an unmanaged switch. Plug it in, connect your network devices, and you are good to go.
Based upon my experience with this switch it is easily worth 5-stars especially for a PoE switch. Yes, you can get 8-port non-PoE switches for half the price. If you have a need for PoE this switch would be a great option. In fact, it should be at the top of your list when shopping for a PoE switch.
