Superb American Obsolete $1 bill issued by the Adrian Insurance Co. at its Banking House in Adrian Michigan circa 1854 per H.L. Bowen’s “Obsolete Banknotes and Scrip of Michigan”. Fully issued but for the date.
Almost 4″ central vignette shows mounted overseer watching slaves working on plantation (unusual for a northern note even in antebellum times). Magnificent image of Native American with rifle at waterfall’s edge on left, large red lacy ONE over small eagle vignette below. Uniface (blank back). Very choice and crisp AU (Choice Uncircualted but for a shallow horizontal surface wrinkle visible only on back) . A stunning 215 year old classic from the wildcat banking era!! Should be $400!
